Hello,
Every so often a piece appears that falls outside the usual categories of antique furniture. This rare Victorian walnut candle and wine stand is one such example — combining elements of a wine table, candle stand and reading stand into a single and remarkably well-executed design.
Dating from around 1870, what immediately caught my attention was the combination of the beautifully turned barley twist column, carved foliate decoration and unusual brass candle sconce arrangement. Pieces of this nature were designed to be both practical and decorative, providing a convenient place for a glass, book or personal object while offering candlelight beside an armchair or fireside seat. It is an uncommon surviving form and one that is
becoming increasingly difficult to find.
