The beauty hidden within a simple country coffer

Hello,
Every so often a piece appears that stands apart from the ordinary. This week's featured arrival is an early 19th century English elm six plank coffer chest retaining its original internal hinged till.
What particularly appealed to me was the honesty of its construction. Built using the traditional six plank method and finished in a warm golden elm tone, it embodies the practical craftsmanship associated with English country furniture. The surviving till, once used for storing candles, documents and household valuables, offers a direct connection to the way these pieces were originally used.
Examples retaining this level of character and functionality are becoming increasingly difficult to find, making it an especially rewarding discovery.
